Disney Movies To Put On Your Calendar!

Where would we be without Magical Disney movies to look forward to? My calendar is certainly full, and after reading this blog, I'm sure yours will be, too! There's tons of new stuff hitting the theaters over the next year that we're sure you won't want to miss! Check out this list of upcoming Disney flicks so you can plan for a Magical time!

We'll go monthly in chronological order to make things easier on you and your schedule, starting with the movie that none of us can wait any longer for, Christopher Robin!

Christopher Robin (August 3rd, 2018)

Winnie the Pooh was definitely a part of my childhood, and I'm sure he was a part of yours, too! In fact, I was obsessed particular episode of The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh in which the infamous, "The Rain Rain Rain" is sung - it was my absolute favorite video to watch! I can't wait to see what Disney has in store for us with this Live-Action retelling of the story of the Hundred Acre Wood. It's going to be a truly Magical experience!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (November 2nd, 2018)
Although I wouldn't consider myself a passionate fan of the story of the Nutcracker, I played a Candy Cane in my elementary school production of the play, so you could call me an expert...Ahem...maybe not, but still! It is a great story, and it's a movie that Disney will have the creative freedom to expand upon! While I'm unsure about the plot and what it will entail, I cannot wait to see what the Four Realms are like!

Ralph Breaks the Internet (November 21st, 2018)
Wreck-It-Ralph was an instant classic, featuring some of Hollywood's funniest actors and actresses, that also managed to be an adorable and inspiring story! The second installment promises to be just as adventurous as the first, if not even more adventurous! Recently released screen captures of moments in the movie showcase a scene in which Venellope meets all of the Disney Princesses in one room. What will come of their meeting? We'll find out soon!

Mary Poppins Returns (December 19th, 2018)
© Disney

Few movies have ever been as iconic as the first edition of Mary Poppins. I've only had the privilege of seeing it a few times over the course of my life, but it certainly made an impact on me! I'm very excited to see what Disney does with this remake; the trailer looks amazing, but it's also really hard to tell what the plot will look like! Emily Blunt and Lin Manuel Miranda appear to be integral parts of the film, obviously Emily Blunt is playing Mary Poppins, but I very much look forward to their adventures with the kids!

Dumbo (March 29th, 2019)Much like the first movie, the live-action edition of Dumbo promises to be quite the tear-jerker. I'm certain that, in part, it's just because Dumbo is just such an adorable little elephant, but out of all of the early Disney stories, this seems to be the one that touches my heart the most. I'm really excited to see how it compares to the first since Disney has totally nailed the last few live-action remakes. Also, I just can't wait to see Danny DeVito in the circus.

Aladdin (May 24th, 2019)Back-to-back live-action remakes are quite the task, but if anyone is up for it, it's the Magical folks at Disney! Aladdin is staged to be a retelling of the original hit film, with some big name actors on the bill. Will Smith is set to play the Genie, and Naomi Scott will be the beloved Princess Jasmine. While there isn't even a trailer available at this time, I'd be willing to bet Aladdin is going to be everything we could hope for!

Toy Story 4 (June 21st, 2019)
The first Toy Story film not directed by John Lasseter, Toy Story 4 is reportedly the story of Woody and Bo Peep's love! Josh Cooley will be the leader in the clubhouse this time around (Director), while Tom Hanks back as Woody! Several franchises have gone a little too far with sequels in the past, but personally, I need another Toy Story movie in my life. Don't you?!

The Lion King (July 19th, 2019)
I just got done writing about Toy Story when I realized we have another live-action remake in the works. One by the name of The Lion King, and one that I am most excited for. The Lion King was easily my favorite movie when I was a little kid, and I cannot wait to see what Jon Favreau has in store for us. It's been reported, and Tweeted about extensively, that the first footage of the film (released at the D23 Expo) was so good the audience gave a standing ovation! Some even cried...

If the opening scene was enough to bring tears to the eyes of film critics, I cannot imagine what I'll be thinking when I see it for the first time!

Wow! What a list! This doesn't even bring us through the end of 2019, but it runs us up to the end of the next 365 days. I like to plan my movie-going experience, don't get me wrong, but the minute I start thinking about August of 2019 is the minute I forget what I'm supposed to be doing tomorrow! We hope you enjoyed today's blog! See you next week!

Stay Magical!

Disney History: Pixar

Few movie companies have been as successful in their time as Pixar - we’ve witnessed some truly historical films over the past two decades thanks to Pixar, and in today’s blog, we’ll briefly touch on every film that Pixar has ever released in the months of May and June! Buckle up, it is quite the list!

Finding Nemo (May 30th, 2003)

© Disney Pixar

Arguably the most influential movie of the decade, Finding Nemo stirred a passionate Pixar fan base and created lifelong relationships with many of their viewers. Until 2010, Finding Nemo was the highest-grossing Pixar film of all time, and for good reason!

Cars (June 9th, 2006)
Just 3 short years after the release of Finding Nemo, and with a few Pixar films in between, Disney and Pixar found another treasured character lineup with Cars! This movie was not only a box office hit, it was another foray into the realm of “toys” that could be easily recognized on the shelves by kids who loved the movie. Taking the idea of toy cars and turning it into a feature-length epic was a brilliant idea by Pixar, and has turned Cars into quite the franchise!

Ratatouille (June 29th, 2007)

After the release of Cars the year prior, there was just no telling where Pixar would go next until we all saw Ratatouille. Set in essentially two completely different worlds that coexisted beautifully, Ratatouille was a super-fun, yet moving, example of the brilliance of Pixar and their animators. For some perspective, Ratatouille was the first feature-length film that had the duality concept play a role throughout the entire film. Although there are moments in Finding Nemo in which the humans can be seen talking to the fish, Ratatouille found a way to make two characters who couldn’t possibly communicate with words - and write the story in such a way that the communication was non-verbal, yet easy for a young audience to understand. Can you tell we love this movie?

Wall-E (June 27th, 2008)
After the success of Ratatouille a year prior, Pixar went after it again with the “limited communication” structure and absolutely knocked it out of the park. For being a story with an inherently negative outlook, Wall-E delivered the joys, laughs, smiles, and certainly tears, of a classic Pixar movie. It ended up winning (yes, winning and not just nominated) for 10 awards and is one of the most decorated Disney movies ever.

Up (May 29th, 2009)

© Disney Pixar

As if Pixar hadn’t already been making history for several years in a row, they decided to grace us all with another classic, Up, at the end of May of 2009. A truly Magical tale Up takes us all on an adventure of both setting and character development. One of the more troubling movies, especially in the beginning (get your tissues ready for that one, by the way), Up finds a way to make you smile, laugh, and cry all within a couple of hours. If you’re looking for a feel-good movie with a twist of meaningful life-lessons, Up is an absolutely fantastic place to start.

Toy Story 3 (June 18th, 2010)
The third installment of Pixar’s original franchise, Toy Story 3 was set to take the box office by storm in 2010. In what was certainly a first for Pixar, they waited over a decade between Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3, and it was well worth the wait. Kids that grew up alongside Andy and the gang got to return to the theater to see their old friend leaving for college, and for new Pixar fans, Toy Story 3 was a fabulous adventure to get started with. I won’t lie to you, I cried harder watching Toy Story 3 than I did in any other Disney film. Maybe it’s because I was sitting next to my mother, who sat next to me while I enjoyed my Disney favorites growing up, or maybe it’s because I was off to college at the same time. Regardless, it’s an incredibly touching film and is something every Disney fan needs to see.

Cars 2 (June 24th, 2011)
Celebrating 25 Years of movie magic, Pixar released the sequel to Cars in June of 2011. Although it isn’t a critically acclaimed film, and certainly didn’t get the ratings that the original got, it was a pleasant follow-up and introduced us to a new version of Lightning and Mater!

Brave (June 22nd, 2012)

© Disney Pixar

Pixar’s first foray into the realm of “History”, Brave was a wonderful exploration of the days of bows and arrows, kings and queens, and scary monsters! Merida has become a household name, and is one of the most beloved Disney princesses of this era! If you’re up for a real adventure, Brave is your one-way ticket!

Monsters University (June 21st, 2013)
Go back to the days of college fraternities and mischief with Mike and Sulley in the prequel to Monsters, Inc.! Much like the first Monsters movie, both Mike and Sulley have some growing up to do, and Monsters University is where they did it! Interestingly, Monsters University was the first Pixar “prequel” film, and if they’re ever thinking of doing another, they certainly have the blueprint! Monsters University wasn’t ever going to be as groundbreaking as Inc. was, but it still found a way to make huge box office numbers and put smiles on Pixar fan’s faces!

Inside Out (June 19th, 2015)
For the first time in nearly a decade, Pixar took the month of June off in 2014, however, they came back with a storm in 2015 and the release of Inside Out, a critically acclaimed masterpiece. Winning as many, and many of the same actually, awards as Wall-E, Inside Out was another “first” for Pixar. It features characters that are actually the emotions inside Riley’s brain, and nearly the entire story actually takes place inside her head! As another character-development style film, Inside Out, does an incredible job of building a lesson into the story-arch, and we’re all better off for it.

Finding Dory (June 17th, 2016)

© Disney Pixar

In what would become a part-revival, part-new, and entirely brilliant film, Pixar broke the box office again with Finding Dory. Although it’s hard to imagine another “Finding __” movie doing as well as the first, Finding Dory actually blew Finding Nemo out of the water! (pun completely intended) Yet another epic adventure story from Pixar, this flick takes you on a new adventure with Dory, our favorite forgetful fish! An instant classic, Finding Dory is a fabulous movie for adults and kiddos, alike!

Cars 3 (June 16th, 2017)
In the third installment of the Cars franchise, Lightning is pushed out of the competition by new and upcoming race cars. Determined to get back into the sport he loves, Lightning finds a new companion and heads back to the track to prove, once again, that he is the best racecar in the world! Although it isn’t the most critically acclaimed of the Pixar movies, it was still considered a box office success, with revenue exceeding the total budget by over $200 million!

Incredibles 2 (June 15th, 2018)
Although it only came out this year, the Incredibles 2 makes it on the list! Certainly not better than the first installment, but certainly not worse, the Incredibles 2 was a wonderful movie and it was so great to see the Parr's back in action! What did you think of the most recent Pixar movie? Let us know in the comments!

Disney Movie History | Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl

This week marked the 15th Anniversary of one of the most Magical Disney films ever: Pirates of the Caribbean!

While The Curse of the Black Pearl is a movie we've watched countless times, we couldn't help but ponder the history behind the film. Where did the personality of Jack Sparrow come from? How did they manage to turn the crew into skeletons? Let's dig into some of the history and fun facts behind the making of The Curse of the Black Pearl!

First things first, The Curse of the Black Pearl, originally titled "Pirates of the Caribbean" with no subtitle, was not expected to be a success. The creators only decided to add a subtitle in case the movie was a success and they could follow it with a sequel. Great call! As soon as the movie hit the box office, Disney executives could rest easy. In just its first week of showing, Pirates brought in nearly 70 million in revenue, only to go on to set worldwide records for Box Office ranking (it stayed at #1 for 8 weeks) and be nominated for several awards including Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects at the Academy Awards.

Aside from the immediate and lasting success of the film overall, it was also Johnny Depp's first venture into a leading role of a major motion picture. Boy, did he deliver. According to those who worked on the set, and Depp himself, the inspiration for the eclectic and easygoing nature of Jack Sparrow was derived from a very notable musician - Keith Richards! Of course, if you've seen At World's End, you'll notice that the writers were fond of the impression since Jack Sparrow's father (Captain Teague) is none other than Keith Richards! Of course, he is. Of course! Interestingly, at first, the writers and producers were not fond of the Jack Sparrow they were seeing. While he didn't fit the mold of the traditional pirate character, it proved to be the perfect personality for a sailing scoundrel like Jack.

As it turns out, Johnny Depp had some creative liberties in his script that made it into the final cut of the movie! Did you know that his use of the word "savvy" (which happens very frequently throughout the film) was actually just a random addition by Depp? We didn't either! Also, the line at the end of the film "Bring me that horizon," was something Depp thought of on the spot. It's almost fitting, isn't it? That Jack Sparrow would come up with his own lines during the filming process? Again, of course, he did.

Although Captain Jack and his adventures are the focus of much of the film, there were several other characters with interesting backgrounds as well. Did you know that Keira Knightley was only 17 while the movie was being filmed? Again, neither did we! That's crazy! It's reported that her mother was on set for each day of filming, which is just awesome, in our opinion!

Finally, as every movie comes to an end, so does today's blog. But not before we share one last awesome fact!

The Curse of the Black Pearl was the very first movie to premiere at Disneyland! It makes a ton of sense, being that it was modeled after the ride at the Park, but it's still really cool to learn! The success of the film opened the gates for movies like The Lone Ranger and Tomorrowland that were also shown first at the Park. Leave it to Jack Sparrow to carve his own path for others to follow, right?

Hope you enjoyed today's blog and that you're having a Magical day!

See you soon!

In addition, there are plans for a few different attractions, namely, the Star Destroyer experience and the Millenium Falcon ride! You'll be invited to change into "proper" Star Wars attire as soon as you arrive, and then proceed to begin your week-long journey into space with the rest of the guests at the resort. Each window of the resort will feature a different view out into space, with all kinds of adventures awaiting your gaze! Also, due to the location of the Resort, it will officially be the most immersive experience of all of the resorts at all the Parks around the world! the Star Wars Resort will be fully connected to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, so you'll be able to take a stroll off the ship, right into the Star Wars universe!

3. 4. Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway - Another very exciting upcoming attraction at Walt Disney World is the Mickey and Minnie Runaway Railway, which is likely to be the most incredible Mickey and Minnie ride ever! Did we mention that it's the first Mickey-themed ride-through attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios? That's right! Not only is it the first of its kind, it's also going to have some really awesome technological features as well! Disney claims that this new technology will mimic the "3D" experiences we're getting used to seeing, but, here's the catch: no 3D glasses. You read that correctly! They're calling this new tech "2 1/2D", and it's set to match the 3D experience you get in the movies without the extras!
